Job apllication Germany
Emotions in a job interview?
One has to be cool in order to be successful on the job. Emotions are not talked about – especially not in a job interview. That’s a very common and current belief, notably in Germany.
Everyone experiences emotions at every moment of the day. Feelings are not only a part of human nature but also markedly crucial in business life. They help us make decisions and interact with others. The one who shows emotions comes across authentic, and authenticity is necessary for permanent success.
All very successful people are originals, people with their own unique character and profile, with passions and emotions. And this is what makes them so attractive to others.
Who comes across authentically is more convincing.
A job interview is a highly emotional situation for every job candidate. Many people believe one has to act quite cool. However, the problem is that the more one tries to hide his insecurities, the more tense and anxious one gets. And that shows!
So, you may as well verbally address your nervousness and your feelings. That appears sympathetic, authentic and human. And this will also help you to establish an emotional connection with your counterpart which in most cases is more critical for a successful interview than being professionally and rhetorically perfect. Human Resource professionals and companies nowadays are looking for people with personality and emotions – so go ahead and show yourself!
