Anja Kiehne-Neuberg
Born in the beginning of spring 1965 in Braunschweig, Germany; grew up with 3 siblings in and around the city of Bonn.
1981/1982 formative experience as foreign exchange student in Missouri, USA.
1984 graduation (Abitur) from high school in Bornheim-Hersel, first intensive professional experiences in gastronomy and retailing before starting university.
1985-1991 general studies of national economy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn, advanced studies of business administration at the University of Cologne with majors in marketing, organization theory, economic and social psychology. Alongside her studies multiple occupational activities in the fields of tourism, gastronomy, and promotion as well as an internship in Toronto, Canada.
1991 – a meaningful year: Marriage, graduation from university with a degree in business (Diplom-Kauffrau) and start of the career at Kaufhof Warenhaus AG, Germany’s second largest department store chain and member of the Metro Group.

- Further development of the leadership culture by implementing a new appraisal system for all employees in the company as well as introducing and establishing a management-feedback tool for all managers
- Advancement of a customer-oriented company culture by initiating customer-focus groups in the subsidiaries

- development, organization and securing of the delivery of learning tools such as seminars, trainings and workshops, and business TV for all employee groups (approx. 25,000 employees across Germany)
- design and accompanying change processes with a special focus on the leadership culture
- conception, organization and realization of company-wide employee surveys together with the Gallup Institute
Special challenges:
- Developed and managed a nationwide customer care training initiative for 17,000 sales representatives in 114 department store branches throughout Germany;
more than 80% of the employees received up to 5 trainings each in a period of 9 months delivered by 75 professional and 500+ non-professional trainers
